What is technical debt?

The easiest explanation is that hardware, software, or technical processes you implement now may not work in the future. This can manifest in many ways. When you're under pressure to put something together quickly, this can result in bugs that will take a lot of time to fix (possibly more time than doing it correctly the first time). Technical debt can also manifest when you move information over from a legacy system, or it can be something that needs to be fixed with better documentation to help user adoption or ensure people use the tools correctly.

At our company, when a Case or Opportunity is created, the parent Account is not always known or identified at that time. This creates a significant amount of work later, trying to manually identify if there is an Account and what it might be. Also, we think it would be useful to have a top-down look at these relationships, viewing the parent Account and seeing a list of its child Accounts and their related objects. How could we accomplish this?

Dear PT, 

At our company, we are having trouble seeing the number of open Projects with an Account or Opportunity. Can you help? Salesforce’s native rollup summary fields can’t be used with certain formulas, specifically formula fields with date functions. Hence, we can’t create the list of open projects as of today (or any other date).
